Piers 15 and 16, 4:30PM – 8:31 PM

KUN, a composition by Wendy Mae Chambers, is scored for 64 baby grand toy pianos and 64 toy pianists performing music composed utilizing the I Ching. Each toy piano represents one of the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching and the 2nd hexagram of the I Ching is named KUN. From 4:30PM until sunset at 8:31PM, 64 pianists play 64 baby grand toy pianos pianos arranged in yin/yang pairs, covering the expanse of Pier 15 and Pier 16 along The East River Waterfront Esplanade. The listener is invited to wander at will through the various piano stations, experiencing the composition in an almost infinite variety of configurations. At sunset toy piano stations perform John Cage's Suite for Toy Piano in honor of his centennial year. It is the first piece ever composed for the instrument in 1948.

The Orpheus Project and Collaborative Stages are coming together to produce two weeks of fully-staged performances of Ricky Ian Gordon's dramatic song cycle Orpheus and Euridice in New York City from June 2-12. The Greek myth's themes of devoted love and the creation of beauty out of suffering are as relevant now as they were thousands of years ago. Gordon's poignant contemporary setting of the Orphic tragedy, for clarinet, soprano, and piano, translates the myth's powerful lessons into a modern tale that gives both perspective and hope to the problems of our times. Orpheus and Euridice features Heather Dudenbostel, Soprano, Ryan Dudenbostel, Clarinet, Jad Bernardo, Piano and is directed by Brian Letchworth and produced by Sarah Jane Arnegger. Collaborative Stages and The Orpheus Project are proud to announce a new production of Ricky Ian Gordon's "Orpheus and Euridice". Directed by Brian Letchworth, this staged production of the popular song cycle will run June 2-12, 2011 at the Duo Multicultural Arts Center in Manhattan. This co-production of "Orpheus and Euridice" will be the first New York City production of this beautiful song cycle since it's premiere at Lincoln Center in 2005.

Scenic designer Dan Levine solves the special problem of needing multiple sets in a FringeNYC show by using projections to designate the place and adding furniture as needed. The five-piece pop rock band sits upstage center, where musical director Jad Bernardo ably conducts from one of the two keyboards. The singers are all miked.
